Cuy in Cusco

I tried cuy a few days ago for lunch at a restaurant that was recommended by one of my teachers. It's a place where a lot of locals go to eat. I like getting recommendations from my teachers because they know the good, clean places. I went with 4 other people. One guy, Mike, and I decided to order one plate of cuy to share. The other people just wanted to take a small taste. Well, I didn't care for it that much, so Mike ate most of it. What I didn't like was the texture. It's kind of slippery. Eeew! Also, it's hard to get past the little carcass staring up at you off the plate. Here are some pictures:

I had to at least give it a try. "When in Rome..." right?!

Hey K. -

Way to go on the cuy! I wouldn't have been able to do it...not with that face staring at me! Good to know that your teachers have good recommedations.

Eeeew, is right! I can't believe you ate that, but I take my hat off to you for your bravery :o) If you ever go on Survivor, now you will be one step closer to being able to eat the strange foods.

P.S. - I LOVE being able to see pics on your blog this time around. It's so nice being able to actually see the things you talk about :o)

Ohhh, the Haagey Eeeeew. Good on you for giving it a try. Peru looks awesome. Looking at all your pictures is like a trip down memory lane. Can't wait to hear all about it when you get back.

Reminds me of my old guinea pig, Corky. He had a far better quality of life than the one in your photo! Can see why it's hard to get past the eye looking at you--ugh!

As I pulled up your blog, I told Joel you tried Cuy, and he said, "I would try it." Then when he saw the photos, he quickly said, "umm, no, not so much." You are a brave traveller, Kristin. Our hats are off to you! ;)
